M-143 Pyrotechnic devices

42nd Parliament, 1st Session

Motion Text

That, in the opinion of the House, the government should: (a) recognize that the requirement for pleasure craft to carry pyrotechnic devices on board is no longer necessary for the safety of such pleasure craft, their operators and passengers, since electronic devices available now can accomplish the same task; (b) recognize that pyrotechnic devices are costly, difficult to store properly, that their handling takes training, and that they can be dangerous and difficult to dispose of; and (c) request that the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities undertake a study of the requirement to carry such devices on board in order to recommend alternatives for Canadian waterways.
