Not administrative responsibility of the Government

Debates p. 10113

Background

Mr. Cameron (Nanaimo-Cowichan-The Islands) sought leave to move the adjournment of the House, under the provisions of Standing Order 26, in order to discuss "the financial difficulties of the Prudential Finance Corporation Limited, as revealed by the freezing of creditors' claims and the placing of its affairs in the hands of a caretaker". The Speaker then allowed Members to explain why the debate was urgent.

Issue

Does the application meet the requirements of Standing Order 26?

Decision

No. The application is not accepted.

Reasons given by the Speaker

The definite matter of urgent public importance proposed under the terms of Standing Order 26 must involve the administrative responsibility of the Government.
