Canada’s Clean Energy Plans in the Context of North American Energy Transformation

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), undertake a study into the steps needed to ensure that Canada’s clean energy plans are on track to meet the challenges and opportunities in North American energy transformation in alignment with the principle of “good paying union jobs” that has been a key focus of the Biden administration commitment for the clean energy transformation; that the committee look at the fair wage policies and guidelines that are necessary to ensure the rights and needs of workers to enjoy the full benefit of investment and good paying jobs in the clean energy economy; and that the committee examine the opportunities and challenges presented by the United States Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 for Canada to attract investment in and develop domestically a competitive net-zero economy; that no fewer than seven meetings are set aside to hear from witnesses including government officials, industry, Canada’s labour unions, Indigenous communities, trade experts as well as hearing from American representatives involved in the implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 which will make major investments in a clean energy economy; that the committee report its findings to the House and that, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the government table a comprehensive response to the report.
