Sculpture to commemorate Nunavut entering Confederation

Context

On April 8, 2019, the Speaker made a statement to recognize the presence in the gallery of Bart Hanna, an Inuit artist commissioned to create a sculpture to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Nunavut becoming a territory within Confederation. The Speaker noted that the sculpture would be on display in West Block until it could be permanently installed in the rehabilitated Centre Block .

Statement of the Chair

The Speaker: I would like to draw to the attention of hon. members the presence in the gallery of Mr. Bart Hanna, an Inuit artist commissioned to produce a sculpture to mark the 20th anniversary of Nunavut entering Confederation.

Some hon. members: Hear, hear!

[The Speaker:] The sculpture, which was officially unveiled this morning, will be on display in the West Block until it can be permanently installed in the foyer of the House of Commons after the renovations are complete.

Members can see it on the third floor in the foyer, and it will be down in the foyer of the second floor before long.
