MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS
Meeting No. 51
Wednesday, May 8, 2002
The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 8:15 a.m. this day, in Grand Ballroom ‘C’ of the Executive Airport Plaza Hotel in Richmond, British Columbia, the Chair, Wayne Easter, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: John Cummins, Rodger Cuzner, Wayne Easter, James Lunney, Jean-Yves Roy.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer.
Witness(es): From the Canadian Coast Guard: Mike Henderson, Regional Director; Jeff Nemrava, Rescue Co-ordinator Centre Officer; Brian Wootton, Acting Officer in Charge, Sea Island. From the As Individual: Joy McPhail, Leader of the NDP party of British Columbia. From the Government of the State of Alaska: Dave Gaudet, Special Assistant to the Commissioner for Alaska, Pacific Salmon Commission. From the Sierra Club of British Columbia: Terry Glavin, Spokesperson. From the Sierra Legal Defence Fund: Angela McCue; John Werring. From the Watershed Watch Salmon Society: Craig Orr, Executive Director. As Individual: John Volpe; Michael Easton.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), by unanimous consent, the Committee began a study of the Canadian Coast Guard hovercraft support to Sea Island Airport.
Mike Henderson made a statement and, with Jeff Nemrava and Brian Wooten, answered questions.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of aquaculture in Canada.
Joy McPhail made a statement and answered questions.
Dave Gaudet made a statement and answered questions.
Craig Orr, Angela McCue and John Werring made presentations and answered questions.
Michael Easton and John Volpe made presentations and answered questions.
At 1:21 p.m., Wayne Easter left the chair.
At 1:21 p.m., Rodger Cuzner took the chair.
At 1:41 p.m., by unanimous consent, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on rockfish resources access.
Terry Glavin made a presentation and, with Valentine De Leeuw, answered questions.
At 2:45 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
