Tuesday, October 30, 2001
The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:12 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Bonnie Brown, Reg Alcock, André Bachand, Jeannot Castonguay, Stan Dromisky, James Lunney, Réal Ménard, Rob Merrifield, Judy Sgro, Yolande Thibeault.
Acting Members present: Preston Manning for Diane Ablonczy; Pauline Picard for Diane Bourgeois; Paddy Torsney for Colleen Beaumier; Bob Wood for Hélène Scherrer.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier and Sonya Norris, Research Officers.
The Committee resumed consideration of the draft legislation on Assisted Human Reproduction. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Thursday, May 3, 2001, Meeting No. 13).
Réal Ménard moved, -- That the Committee invited the Bayer and Apotex companies to appear before it on the matter of the stockpiling of Cipro by Health Canada.
Rob Merrifield moved, -- That the motion be amended by inserting the words “and witnesses from Health Canada” into the original motion after the words “the Bayer and Apotex companies.”
After debate, the question being put on the amendment, it was, by a show a of hands, negatived:
