Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2023-24: Vote 1 under Office of the Commissioner of Lobbying, Vote 1 under Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner, Vote 1 under Office of the Senate Ethics Officer, Votes 1 and 5 under Offices of the Information and Privacy Commissioners of Canada, referred to the committee on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.

The Chair called Votes 1 and 5 under Offices of the Information and Privacy Commissioners of Canada.

Philippe Dufresne and Caroline Maynard made statements and answered questions.

Lisa Hepfner gave notice of the following motion:

That, the deadline to submit witnesses for the study of the use of TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance Ltd be end of day Friday, May 19th, 2023, and that the committee begin hearing from witnesses on Tuesday, May 30th, 2023.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

At 9:46 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:50 a.m., the sitting resumed.

The Chair called Vote 1 under Office of the Commissioner of Lobbying, Vote 1 under Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissionerand Vote 1 under Office of the Senate Ethics Officer.

By unanimous consent, the Chair called Vote 1 under Office of the Commissioner of Lobbying, Vote 1 under Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner, Vote 1 under Office of the Senate Ethics Officer and Votes 1 and 5 under Offices of the Information and Privacy Commissioners of Canada.

By unanimous consent, on motion of Ya'ara Saks, it was agreed, — That, until the end of June 2023, Member of Parliament Ryan Turnbull be granted access to the digital binder of the committee and receive all distributions sent to committee members.
