It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of pre-budget consultations in advance of the 2024 Budget, the proposed supplementary budget in the amount of $ 34,000, for the committee's travel to Québec, Québec, Toronto, Ontario, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Edmonton, Alberta and Vancouver, British Columbia in Fall 2023, be adopted.

Ron Butler, Jennifer Keesmaat, Jasmine Toor, Leilani Farha, Catherine Fournier and Maureen Fair, made statements and answered questions.

Jasraj Singh Hallan gave notice of the following motion:

That the committee immediately undertake a five-meeting review of the federal carbon tax and its impact on affordability. And that the committee invite the Minister of Finance to appear on this matter.

Rachel Bendayan moved, — That the Chair of the committee immediately report to the House, that the committee:

1. Celebrates the Canada Pension Plan as the foundation of a secure and dignified retirement for tens of millions of Canadians and a pillar of Canada’s economy;
2. Recognizes the important contribution of the Quebec Pension Plan which was established independently at the same time as the Canada Pension Plan; and,
3. Stands with the majority of Albertans who are opposed to Premier Danielle Smith’s dangerous plan to withdraw from the Canada Pension Plan that threaten the pensions of millions of seniors and hardworking Canadians from coast to coast.
