Pursuant to the order of reference of Tuesday, October 18, 2022, the committee resumed consideration of Bill C-22, Canada Disability Benefit Act.

Paul Lupien, André Prévost, William Adair and Karen Wood made statements, and with Matthew Maynard, answered questions.

At 5:39 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:43 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Rosemarie Hemmelgarn, Michael J. Prince and Krista Carr made statements and answered questions.

Motion

Rosemarie Falk moved, — That the committee report to the House that it is of the opinion that it rejects the Quebec College of Physicians assertion on October 7, 2022, that the expansion of medical assistance in dying (MAID) is appropriate for infants up to age one who are born with severe and grave syndromes.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Scott Aitchison, Rosemarie Falk, Michelle Ferreri, Tracy Gray — 4;

NAYS: Louise Chabot, Chad Collins, Michael Coteau, Wayne Long, Soraya Martinez Ferrada, Tony Van Bynen, Bonita Zarrillo — 7.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.
