Tuesday, October 21, 1997

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in a televised session, at 9:34 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, George Baker, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: George Baker, Yvan Bernier, John Duncan, Wayne Easter, Charles Hubbard, Gar Knutson, Sophia Leung, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Gary Lunn, Bill Matthews, Lawrence O’Brien, Carmen Provenzano, Yves Rocheleau, Paul Steckle and Peter Stoffer.

Acting Member present: Preston Manning for Reed Elley.

Other Member present: John O’Reilly.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament
: Alan Nixon and Claude Emery, Research Officers.

Witnesses: L. Denis Desautels, Auditor General of Canada, Doug Timmins, Assistant Auditor General.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), consideration of the following: Chapter 14 of the Report of the Auditor General - (Fisheries and Oceans of Canada - Sustainable Fisheries Framework: Atlantic Groundfish); Chapter 15 of the Report of the Auditor General of Canada (Fisheries and Oceans Canada - Rationalization and Renewal: Atlantic Groundfish); Chapter 16 of the Report of the Auditor General - (Human Resources Development Canada - The Atlantic Groundfish Strategy).

Denis Desautels made an opening statement and with the other witness answered questions.

At 11:15 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to later this day.
