EVIDENCE
[Recorded by Electronic Apparatus]
Thursday, October 5, 2000
The Clerk of the Committee: Honourable members, we have a quorum. In accordance with Standing Orders 106(1) and 106(2), our first item of business is the election of a chairman. I am ready to receive motions to that effect.
[English]
Mr. Ivan Grose (Oshawa, Lib.): Mr. Chair, I would like to place in nomination the name of Mr. John O'Reilly, Esquire.
(Motion agreed to)
The Clerk: I declare Mr. O'Reilly duly elected chair of the committee and invite him to take the chair.
The Chair (Mr. John O'Reilly (Haliburton—Victoria—Brock, Lib.)): Thank you very much, colleagues, for the honour of being chair of this committee. I think we've all gone through a lot together.
We'll now get on with the rest of the business, and that is the election of the two vice-chairs, one from the opposition and one from the government. Madam Parrish.
Ms. Carolyn Parrish (Mississauga Centre, Lib.): I'd like to nominate Nancy Karetak-Lindell for vice-chair.
(Motion agreed to)
The Chair: Now we'll have the election of a vice-chair from the opposition. Claude.
[Translation]
Mr. Claude Bachand (Saint-Jean, BQ): I nominate Mr. Elley.
[English]
(Motion agreed to)
The Chair: Congratulations.
Thank you very much. That's it.
I want to thank everyone for taking part. I know you all have busy schedules.
I hereby adjourn this meeting to the call of the chair.
