Meeting No. 1

Tuesday, May 9, 2000

The Sub-Committee on Organized Crime of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met in camera at 9:35 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Paul DeVillers, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Jim Abbott, Michel Bellehumeur, Paul DeVillers, Peter MacKay, Peter Mancini, John McKay, Jacques Saada, Andy Scott.

Acting Member present: Raymonde Folco for John Maloney.

Other Member present: Réal Ménard.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Lynn Casavant, Researcher; Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Security Intelligence Service: Jim Corcoran, Deputy Director, Operations. From the Ministry of the Solicitor General of Canada: Paul E. Kennedy, Senior Assistant Deputy Solicitor General, Policing and Security Branch. From the Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Guiliano Zaccardelli, Deputy Commissioner, Organized Crime & Operational Policy; Richard Proulx, Director General, Criminal Intelligence.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference dated Tuesday, November 30, 1999, a study of organized crime.

The witnesses briefed the Sub-Committee on organized crime and answered questions.

At 12:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
