MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 12

Thursday, March 14, 2002

The Sub-Committee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee met in camera at 1:05 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Walt Lastewka, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Mauril Bélanger, Bonnie Brown, Walt Lastewka, Clifford Lincoln, and Judi Longfield.

Acting Members present: Gurmant Grewal for John Williams.

Other Members present:  Michel Bellehumeur, Murray Calder, Aileen Carroll, and Ovid Jackson.

In attendance:  From the Committees Directorate:  Richard Dupuis, Clerk of the Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations; Christine Fisher, Clerk of the Standing Committee of the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage; Normand Radford, Clerk of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology; Jean-Michel Roy, Committee Clerk for the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade; Suzanne Verville, Clerk of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food; From the Financial and Human Resources Services Directorate: Nicholas Pappas, Senior Financial Officer.

Consideration of budget submissions in accordance with Standing Order 107(1).

It was agreed, - That the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food be granted a budget of $42,300 to travel to Washington in April 2002 for its study on the future role of the Government in agriculture.

It was agreed, - That the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage be granted a budget of $132,600 to travel to Quebec and Atlantic Provinces, St. John’s, Halifax, Charlottetown, Moncton, Montreal, in April 2002, for its study on Canadian Broadcasting System.

It was agreed, - That the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology be granted the following budgets for its study of peer review granting process:

a)                  $80,500 to travel to Helsinki, Finland; Bonn, Frankfurt Germany; London, England, Brussels, Belgium, from April 20 to 30, 2002;

b)                  $58,500 to travel to Washington, D.C., from May 12 to 15, 2002.

It was agreed, - That the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade be granted the following budgets for its study on North American Relationship and the G-8 agenda:

a)                  $120,400 to travel to Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, from April 7 to 12, 2002;

b)                  $88,500 to travel to Winnipeg, Toronto and Windsor, from April 7 to 12, 2002.

It was agreed, - That the Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations be granted a total amount of $200,000 for its travel to East and West Coast and in April 2002 and to Washington, D.C. and San Diego, California in May 2002 for its study on the Canadian Trucking Industry.

At 1:55 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
