Thursday, December 6, 2001
The Special Committee on Non-Medical Use of Drugs met at 2:46 p.m. this day, in the Azalea Room, Garden Park Tower, Abbotsford, B.C., the Chair, Paddy Torsney, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Dominic Leblanc, Paddy Torsney and Randy White.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Marilyn Pilon, research officer.
Witnesses: From the Campbell Valley Women's Centre: Terri-Lee Seeley, Executive Director. As Individual: Jamie Hamilton. From Taking Back the Streets: Diane Sowden. From the Abbotsford Detox Steering Committee: Uultje De Jong. From Cannabis Culture Magazine: Dana Larsen, Editor. From the Abbotsford Downtown Business Area: Mary Reeves, Executive Director. From the Abbotsford School Board District: Joanne Field, Vice-Chair; Des McKay, Principal, W.J. Movat Secondary School. As Individual: Marcyne Heinrichs. From the City of Abbotsford: His Worship George F. Ferguson, Mayor. From the Abbotsford Police Victims Services: Delaine Milette, Coordinator. From Full Circle Life Recovery Strategy: Andy Rowe, Director. From Wagner Hill Farms: Helmut Boehm, Executive Director. As Individual: Barry Neufeld, Abbotsford youth probation officer. From the National Training Centre: John Parker, Director, Self-Protection and Functional Fitness. From the Abbotsford Addiction Centre: Charlaine Avery, Clinical Director. As Individual: Les Talvio.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the House of Commons on Thursday, May 17, 2001, consideration of the factors underlying or relating to the non-medical use of drugs.
Terri-Lee Seeley, Jamie Hamilton, Diane Sowden, Uultje De Jong and Dana Larsen made statements and answered questions.
At 3:40 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 3:41 p.m., the sitting resumed.
