MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Tuesday, November 6, 2001
The Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations met at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 705 La Promenade, the Chair, Ovid Jackson presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Gerry Byrne, John Cannis, Bev Desjarlais, André Harvey, Ovid Jackson, Mario Laframboise, Val Meredith, James Moore, Marcel Proulx, Alex Shepherd, Paul Szabo.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: John Christopher; June Dewetering, researchers.
Witnesses: From the Yorkton Securities: Jacques Kavafian. From the Democracy Watch: Duff Conacher, Coordinator. From the Canadian Labour Congress: Hassan Yussuff, Executive Vice-President; Kevin Hayes, Senior Economist, Social and Economic Policy. From the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers in Canada: Louis Erlichman, Canadian Research Director. From the Canadian Union of Public Employees: Richard Balnis, Senior Research Officer. From the CAW Canada: Serge Portelance, National Representative, CAW-Canada.
Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Wednesday, October 31, 2001, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-38, An Act to amend the Air Canada Public Participation Act (See Minutes of Proceedings, Monday, November 5, 2001, Meeting No. 30)
The witnesses each made a statement and answered questions.
At 10:57 a.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 11:02 p.m., the sitting was resumed.
At 12:07 p.m. the sitting was suspended.
At 12:11 p.m. the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.
MOVED: - That on Wednesday, November 7, 2001 after the last witness had been heard, the Committee proceed to clause by clause consideration of Bill C-38, An Act to amend the Air Canada Public Participation Act.
After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was agreed to, by a show of hands.
At 12:47 p.m. the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
