[English]

The Clerk of the Committee: Honourable members of the subcommittee, I see that we have a quorum.
We can now proceed with the election of the chair for the subcommittee, so I'm taking nominations.
Dr. Fry.

Hon. Hedy Fry (Vancouver Centre, Lib.): I would like to move John Maloney to be chair, in absentia.

The Clerk: There is one motion on the table.
(Motion agreed to)

The Clerk: Now I will take nominations for a vice-chair.

Hon. Hedy Fry: I would like to nominate Libby Davies as vice-chair.

The Clerk: Okay.
(Motion agreed to)

The Clerk: In lieu of the fact that Mr. Maloney is absent for the time being, I will call on Ms. Davies to take the chair of the committee.
So I'll turn it over to her.

The Vice-Chair (Ms. Libby Davies (Vancouver East, NDP)): Thank you, members.
In the absence of our chair, Mr. Maloney, I'll continue with the meeting, but we're just going to suspend for a moment--because we're in public right now--so we can go back in camera to continue with our business or determine how we want to continue with our business.
Is that acceptable to people?
Some hon. members: Agreed.
[Proceedings continue in camera]
