The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Guy André, Leon Benoit, Ron Cannan, Helena Guergis, Peter Julian, Hon. Dominic LeBlanc, Pierre Lemieux, John Maloney, Ted Menzies, Pierre A. Paquette and Lui Temelkovski.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Keith Martin for Hon. Mark Eyking and Brent St. Denis for Lui Temelkovski.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Peter Berg, Analyst; Elizabeth Kuruvila, Analyst. Standing Committee on International Trade: Alexandre Roger, Co-Clerk of the Committee.

 

Appearing: Hon. David Emerson, Minister of International Trade.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (International Trade): Andrea Lyon, Director General, North America Trade Policy Bureau; Paul Bailey, Deputy Head of Section, Softwood Lumber.

 

Pursuant the motion on 48 hours motion notice agreed on Wednesday, May 3, 2006:

 

On motion of Peter Julian, it was agreed, — That the Monday May 15th Motion of meeting of the Standing Committee on Trade which includes the presence of the Minister of International Trade be a regular open public standing committee meeting.

 

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of Softwood Lumber.
 

The Minister made a statement and answered questions.

 

Pursuant the motion on 48 hours motion notice agreed on Wednesday, May 3, 2006:

 

Ron Cannan moved, — That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be composed of the Chair, the two Vice-Chairs, a Government member and a member of the New Democratic Party.

Debate arose thereon.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 3.

 

At 4:45 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
