[Recorded by Electronic Apparatus]
(1900)
[English]
Pursuant to Standing Order 106, the committee can now proceed to the election of the chair.
[Translation]
I am ready to receive motions for the position of Chair.
[English]
An hon. member: Mr. Rob Merrifield.
The Clerk: It has been moved that Mr. Merrifield be elected as chair of the committee. Are there any further motions?
Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
(Motion agreed to)
I'm actually very nervous about that motion, because unless I get a vote of confidence on a daily basis at this committee, I feel a little uneasy.
Nonetheless, we have the routine procedures. We'd entertain a motion immediately for—
An hon. member: I so move.
The Chair: These are the same as were adopted at the main committee. We have a motion.
(Motion agreed to [See Minutes of Proceedings])
Yes, I think you might find unanimous consent, if that's the term, Mr. Chair, that we simply pass this bill and have a 10-minute meeting tomorrow to present it formally to the main committee.
[Translation]
[English]
That's fine.
(Motion agreed to on division [See Minutes of Proceedings])
The Chair: We'll waive on the minister coming tomorrow, which we could have had. We'll have a 15-minute meeting from 1:45 to two o'clock to present it to the original committee. Then we'll hopefully table it by three o'clock.
Mr. Chair, can I offer my thanks to departmental officials who were here and prepared to defend the wonderful things in this piece of legislation? Apparently we don't need them this evening. So thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen, for coming.
