[Recorded by Electronic Apparatus]
(0905)
[Translation]
Honourable members of the committee,
[English]
I see a quorum. We can now proceed to the election of chair. I am ready to receive motions to that effect.
Mr. Stoffer.
Are there any other motions?
It's been moved by Mr. Stoffer that Mr. Sweet be elected chair of this committee. Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
(Motion agreed to)
Some hon. members: Hear, hear!
The Clerk: If the committee wishes, we can proceed to the election of vice-chairs. I need a motion for the election of the vice-chairs for the official opposition.
Mr. Stoffer.
Are there any other motions?
It has been moved by Mr. Stoffer that Mr. Oliphant be elected vice-chair of the committee for the opposition. Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
(Motion agreed to)
The Clerk: We will now go to the election of the second vice-chair.
Mr. Gaudet.
[Translation]
It is moved by Mr. Gaudet that Mr. Stoffer be elected vice-chair of the committee.
[English]
Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
(Motion agreed to)
The Clerk: I will now invite the chair to take—
Gentlemen, thank you.
We have no ladies here today, it's all men on the committee. I'm sorry, I am not referring to ladies on the staff, but the two Judys aren't present today.
Thank you very much for your confidence again.
Thank you, Jacques, for running the meeting and looking after the necessary protocols for chair and vice-chairs.
Generally when I've been on committees, after the chairs are nominated and voted for, there's a recess for that meeting, but I think to use our time most efficiently, if it pleases the committee, we should take a look at future business and decide at least to have a path forward from this meeting so that we can begin to call witnesses, etc., and begin to do our work. We'd had some discussion before, but I want to open the floor to some conversation about moving forward.
Mr. Stoffer.
We did this in the fisheries committee, sir, and we went in camera for that. I don't know if it's necessary for us to do so.
