TRAN Committee Publishes Documents on Canada Infrastructure Bank Loan to B.C. Ferries
Ottawa, September 23, 2025 -
Today, the House of Commons Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities (the committee) published documents that it received in line with its 1 August 2025 order for the production of papers.
These documents pertain to the Canada Infrastructure Bank’s loan for new vessels for British Columbia Ferry Services Inc. (BC Ferries) and on the proposed acquisition by BC Ferries of four new vessels to be constructed by a Chinese state-owned shipyard.
The documents were sent to the committee by the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB), the Department of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities, the Department of Transport, the Privy Council Office and the Office of the Prime Minister.
In June, the Globe and Mail reported that the CIB had provided a $1 billion loan to BC Ferries for the purchase of four new vessels to be built by Jinling Shipyard Co. Ltd. in Weihai, China.
“These documents will greatly assist the committee in its work by helping it understand the relevant issues”, stated Peter Schiefke, Chair of the committee. He also expressed that the committee was looking forward to reviewing the documents and hearing from more witnesses this fall as it continues its study of the CIB’s loan for new vessels for BC Ferries.
The documents are available on the committee’s web page on the Parliament of Canada website.
