Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, the committee commenced its study of the impacts of Hurricane Fiona and the climate crisis on Atlantic Canada.

Jamie Fox, Derrick Bragg, Margaret Johnson and Steve Craig made statements and answered questions.

At 2:01 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:04 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Ariel Smith and Molly Aylward made statements and, with Gerard Watts and Mitchell Jollimore, answered questions.

At 2:42 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:49 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, the committee resumed its study of the closure of mackerel fishing in Atlantic Canada and the Gulf of the St. Lawrence.

The committee proceeded to give drafting instructions to the analysts for a draft letter.

It was agreed, — That, for the study of the closure of mackerel fishing in Atlantic Canada and the Gulf of the St. Lawrence, the members of the committee submit to the clerk their written recommendations for the drafting of a letter no later than 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.

It was agreed, — That, for the study of the closure of mackerel fishing in Atlantic Canada and the Gulf of the St. Lawrence, the deadline for the submission of briefs be 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That, for the study of Supplementary Estimates (B), the clerk be instructed to invite the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard and officials from the Department to appear on Friday, December 2, 2022, for two hours.

At 2:55 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
