Pursuant to the order of reference of Wednesday, March 8, 2023, the committee resumed consideration of Bill C-295, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (neglect of vulnerable adults).

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

The Chair presented the Sixth Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows:

Your subcommittee met on Monday, May 10, 2023, to consider the business of the committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

  1. For the meeting of Wednesday, May 10, 2023, - The committee study Bill C-295 and hear from witnesses for the first hour and department officials for the second hour.
    1. That the deadline to submit witness lists for this meeting be on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at noon.
  2. For the meeting of Monday, May 15, 2023, - The committee study Bill C-295 and hear from witnesses for two hours.
    1. That the deadline to submit witness lists for this meeting be on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.
  3. For the meeting of Wednesday, May 17, 2023, - The committee continue the clause-by-clause consideration of BillC-41. If not possible, the committee consider the draft report on the study of Extradition Law reform.
  4. That for the study of Bill S-224, the committee hold three meetings with witnesses.

It was agreed, — That the Sixth Report from the subcommittee be concurred in.

On motion of Gary Anandasangaree, it was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of to review available international mechanisms to hold state parties and others accountable for International Atrocity Crimes (war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide), the proposed budget in the amount of $165,421.82, for the committee’s travel to Geneva, Switzerland, Amsterdam, Netherlands, The Hague, Netherlands in Summer - Winter 2023, be adopted.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the committee invite Department of Justice officials to be called as witnesses on its study of Bill C-295.

At 5:44 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
