MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS (Meeting No. 5) Tuesday, October 28, 1997 The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:35 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding. Members of the Committee present: André Bachand, Sue Barnes, Elinor Caplan, Odina Desrochers, Mac Harb, Gurmant Grewal, René Laurin, Steve Mahoney, Philip Mayfield, Lynn Myers, Rey Pagtakhan, Andrew Telegdi and John Williams. Acting Members present: Denis Coderre for Elinor Caplan; Bill Graham for Mark Assad; Derek Lee for Ivan Grose. Other Member present: Ovid Jackson. In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O’Neal and Marion G. Wrobel, Research Officers. Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: L. Denis Desautels, Auditor General of Canada; Doug Timmins, Assistant Auditor General; Nancy Cheng, Principal, Audit Operations Branch. From the Secretariat of the Treasury Board: René Guindon, Visiting Assistant Deputy Minister, Year 2000 Project Office; Paul Rummell, Chief Information Officer; Colin Potts, Deputy Comptroller General. Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of Chapter 12 of the April and October 1997 Report of the Auditor General of Canada (Information Technology: Preparedness for Year 2000) (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday, October 21, 1997, Meeting No. 3). L. Denis Desautels and René Guindon made opening statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions. At 5:24 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair. |
