(Meeting No. 3)

Wednesday, November 5, 1997

The Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment met at 3:33 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 269, West Block, the Chair, Bob Speller, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: William Blaikie, Scott Brison, Sarmite Bulte, Robert Nault, Charlie Penson, Julian Reed, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz and Daniel Shaw, Research Officers; Dr. Christopher Maule, Consultant.

Witnesses: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade : William Dymond, MAI, Chief Negociator; From Industry Canada : Robert Ready, Assistant Director, International Investment and Services Policy.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference from the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade (See Minutes of October 23, 1997 – Meeting No. 4), the Sub-Committee resumed it’s study of the Multilateral Agreement on Investment.

William Dymond made an opening statement and, with Robert Ready, answered questions.

It was agreed, – That a press release be put out to inform the public on the Sub-Committee’s work.

At 5:26 o’clock p.m., the Sub-Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
