Thursday, February 17, 2000
The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:09 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Joe Fontana, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Leon Benoit, Bernard Bigras, John Bryden, Joe Fontana, Rick Limoges, David Price and Andrew Telegdi.
Acting Member present: Raymonde Folco for Steve Mahoney.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Immigration and Refugee Board: Peter Showler, Chair; Nicole Senécal, Executive Director; Philip Palmer, General Counsel.
Pursuant to Standing Orders 110 and 111(4), the Committee reviewed the Order in Council Appointment of Peter Showler as Chairperson of the Immigration and Refugee Board - Sessional Paper No. 8540-362-14-03, (Deemed referred on November 29, 1999, pursuant to Standing Order 32(6)); and
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to consider the Performance Report of the Immigration and Refugee Board for the period ending March 31, 1999.
Peter Showler made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 10:57 a.m., the Committee adjourned until Wednesday, February 23, 2000 at 3:30 p.m.
