Wednesday, March 1st, 2000
The Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Sarmite Bulte, presiding.
Members of the Sub-Committee present: Sarmite Bulte, Murray Calder, Deepak Obhrai, Alex Shepherd, Bob Speller.
Acting Members present: Hélène Alaire for Richard Marceau; Dick Proctor for Bill Blaikie.
Other Members present: Rick Casson.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Peter Berg and Gerry Schmidt, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada: Mike Gifford, Special Trade Policy Advisor (retired) to the Deputy Minister; Susanne Vinet, Acting Director General, International Trade Policy Directorate, Market and Industry Services Branch. From the Canadian Federation of Agriculture: Jennifer Higginson, Trade Policy Analyst; Sally Rutherford, Executive Director. From the Sierra Club of Canada: Christine Elwell, Senior Policy Analyst. From the Canadian Pork Council: Martin Rice, Executive Director.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Sub-Committee resumed consideration of Canada's Economic relations with Europe. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Wednesday, February 16, 2000, Meeting No. 6).
Mike Gifford, Jennifer Higginson, Martin Rice and Christine Elwell made opening statements and, with Sally Rutherford, answered questions.
At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
