Meeting No. 29

Thursday, October 4, 2001

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Joe Fontana, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Yvon Charbonneau, Joe Fontana, John Godfrey Paul Forseth, Art Hanger, Steve Mahoney, Inky Mark, Anita Neville, David Price, Lynne Yelich.

Acting Members present: Andy Savoy for Jerry Pickard

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin, Researcher.

The Committee proceeded to consider its future business.

It was agreed, -That the Committee undertake a study on the Security of Border points for immigrants and that the schedule be as follows:

Week of October 16: Minister of Immigration, Officials from the Department of Citizenship and Immigration, CSIS, RCMP and Immigration Refugee Board.

Week of October 22: Travel to Border points across Canada.

Week of October 29: Travel to Washington: Meeting with Congress and Senate Immigration Committee Members.

At 10:02 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
