The Clerk of the Committee: Honourable members, I see a quorum. Pursuant to the order of Tuesday, October 2, 2001 of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, we have the election of the chair. I am ready to receive motions to that effect.
Mr. Pat O'Brien (London—Fanshawe, Lib.): I would propose Mr. Harb for the position of chair.
Mr. Bob Speller (Haldimand—Norfolk—Brant, Lib.): A parliamentary secretary shouldn't be moving. I'll move.
The Clerk: I have a motion from Mr. Speller that Mac Harb do take the chair of the committee. Do I have any other motions?
Mr. Bob Speller: Can we have a secret ballot?
The Clerk: Are members ready for the question? The question is as follows: that Mac Harb do take the chair of the committee. Is it the members' pleasure to adopt the motion?

The Clerk: Mr. Harb, take the chair.
The Chair (Mr. Mac Harb (Ottawa Centre, Lib.)): Thank you very much.
I am told that's the only item on the agenda. Can't we talk about anything else?
The Clerk: We can. Have you decided if you want to do business in camera or in public?
The Chair: I'd like to go in camera.
