Tuesday, June 4, 2002

The Sub-Committee on the Study of Sport in Canada of the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Dennis Mills, presiding.

Member(s) of the Sub-Committee present: Rodger Cuzner, Robert Lanctôt, Serge Marcil, Dennis Mills, Dick Proctor, Chuck Strahl.

Acting Member present: Stan Keyes for Hélène Scherrer.

Other Member present: Peter MacKay.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Antony Jackson, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity: Shawnee Scatliff, Chair; Phyllis Berck, Chair Elect; Karine Henrie, Graduate Student. From the Hockey-Quebec: Guy Blondeau. From the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages: Dyane Adam, Commissioner of Official Languages; Johane Tremblay, General Counsel; Gilbert Langelier, Director, Special Investigations.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Wednesday, April 17, 2002, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-54, An Act to promote physical activity and sport (See Minutes of Proceedings, Wednesday, May 22, 2002, Meeting No. 4).

Shawnee Scatliff, Phyllis Berck and Karine Henrie made a presentation and answered questions.

Guy Blondeau made a presentation and answered questions.

Dyane Adam made a presentation and answered questions.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
