Tuesday, June 10, 2003
The
Standing Committee on Official Languages met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room
237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Mauril Bélanger, presiding.
Members of the Committee
present: Mauril
Bélanger, Eugène Bellemare, Jeannot Castonguay, Scott Reid, Benoît Sauvageau,
Raymond Simard and Yolande Thibeault.
Acting Member present: Cheryl Gallant for Jason Kenney.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the
Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, analyst.
Appearing: The Honourable John McCallum,
Minister of National Defence.
Witnesses: From the Department of National
Defence: Shirley Siegel, Assistant Deputy Minister, Human Resources -
Civilian; MGen Jan Arp, Chief of Staff - Assistant Deputy Minister, Human
Resources - Military.
Pursuant to Standing Order
108 (3)(d), the Committee proceeded to a briefing in relation to the
last annual report on official languages from the Department of National
Defence.
The Minister made a
statement and, with the witnesses, answered questions.
At 10:25 a.m., the
Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
