The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That, given the increasing prevalence of online child exploitation, including luring and extortion, and the evolving nature of digital platforms that facilitate such crimes, and acknowledging the necessity to continually strengthen legal frameworks to effectively combat these offenses and protect vulnerable individuals, the committee undertakes a study, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), on the legal tools available to combat child luring, online exploitation, and extortion. That the committee dedicate at least four (4) meetings to this study and issue recommendations in the form of a report to the House.

It was agreed, — That, given the increasing concern among Canadians about repeat violent offenders and the need for a justice system that prioritizes both community safety and fairness, and given that a responsible and evidence-based approach to sentencing is essential to ensuring Canadians’ continued confidence in the justice system, the committee undertake a study, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), on how to strengthen sentencing guidelines for repeat offenders, particularly in cases involving violence or threats to public safety. That the committee dedicate at least four (4) meetings to this study and issue recommendations in the form of a report to the House.
