It was agreed, — That the committee undertake a study, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), on Canada-United States border management;
that the study include a minimum of five meetings;that the committee invite the Minister of Public Safety, Secretary of State (Combatting Crime), the Fentanyl Czar, the Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the President of the Canada Border Services Agency, the President of the Customs and Immigration Union, the President of the National Police Federation and other witnesses as the committee deems appropriate to appear before it; that the study begin with a two-hour in-camera briefing by relevant officials from Public Safety Canada, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the Canada Border Services Agency; and, that the committee report its recommendations to the House.It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee invite Public Safety Canada, Canada Border Services Agency and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, to provide a one-hour, public update to the committee on the implementation of the government's National Action Plan to Combat Auto Theft.
It was agreed, — That, given reports that 1,635 foreign nationals with criminal records are facing deportation, of which 600 have failed to attend their deportation proceedings and their whereabouts are unknown, 431 have been found guilty of serious crimes, and 361 have been avoiding deportation for more than two years, the committee undertake a study, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), into Canada’s ability to deport foreign nationals with criminal records with a view of recommending measures to prevent these criminals from entering Canada in the first place, and to identify more effective ways of ensuring such criminals are deported;
that the committee dedicate no fewer than six meetings for this study and that the committee invite the following witnesses to appear: The Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, the Minister of Public Safety, the President of the Canada Border Service Agency; that the committee receive evidence from victims’ groups, law enforcement agencies, departmental officials and experts submitted to the clerk by members of the committee; and thatat the conclusion of the hearings, the committee report its findings and recommendations to the House, and, pursuant to Standing Order 109, request a government response.It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee undertake a study on the role of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) in supporting maritime trade in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence corridor (Hwy H2O), and on measures being considered to strengthen customs clearance capacity at ports along the Hwy H2O corridor;
that, as part of this study, the committee invite the following witnesses to appear for two hours: representatives from the Port of Valleyfield; operators of the ports of Hamilton, Québec, Valleyfield, Windsor, Picton, Port Colborne, and Goderich; representatives from the CBSA; that the committee assess and measure the impacts of the absence of CBSA services at the ports of the aforementioned municipalities; and,that the committee present a report containing its recommendations to House, and that the government respond to it pursuant to Standing Order 109.At 1:08 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
