MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 31

Tuesday, May 12, 1998

 

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in camera at 3:34 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 209 of the West Block, the Vice-Chair, Ivan Grose, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mark Assad, Sue Barnes, Mac Harb, Ivan Grose, René Laurin, Lynn Myers and Andrew Telegdi.

Acting Members present: Roy Bailey for Gurmant Grewal, Ovid Jackson for Steve Mahoney, Chuck Strahl for John Williams.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O’Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of a Draft Report respecting Chapter 35 of the December 1997 Report of the Auditor General of Canada, paragraphs 35.61 - 35.79 (Follow-up of Recommendations in Previous Reports - Correctional Service Canada - Custody of Inmates).

The Committee considered the Draft Report and proposed amendments thereto.

It was agreed,- That the Draft Report, as amended, be concurred in.

It was agreed,- That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes to the Report as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

It was ordered,- That the Report, as amended, be presented to the House of Commons.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of a Draft Report respecting Chapter 32 of the December 1997 Report of the Auditor General of Canada (Revenue Canada and Department of Finance - - Understanding Changes in Tax Revenues: GST).

The Committee considered the Draft Report and proposed amendments thereto.

It was agreed,- That the Draft Report, as amended, be concurred in.

It was agreed,- That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes to the Report as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

It was ordered,- That the Report, as amended, be presented to the House of Commons.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of a Draft Report respecting Chapter 31 of the December 1997 Report of the Auditor General of Canada (Revenue Canada - - Financial Management Regime).

The Committee considered the Draft Report and proposed amendments thereto.

It was agreed,- That the Draft Report, as amended, be concurred in, on division.

It was agreed,- That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes to the Report as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

It was ordered,- That the Report, as amended, be presented to the House of Commons.

It was agreed,- That the members of the Bloc Québécois be authorized to have appended to the Report on Chapter 31 a dissenting opinion provided that the dissenting opinion is submitted to the Clerk of the Committee within the next 48 hours.

At 5:27 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
