MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 10

Monday, April 26, 1999

The Sub-Committee on Corrections and Conditional Release Act of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met in a televised session at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Paul DeVillers, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Paul DeVillers, Ivan Grose, Richard Marceau, Lynn Myers, Jacques Saada and Tom Wappel.

Acting Member present: Jim Abbott for Jim Gouk.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Lynn Casavant, Researcher; Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Police Association: Boyd Campbell, Manitoba Vice-President; David Griffin, Executive Officer. From the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police: Pierre Sangollo, Director; Michael Shard, Inspector, Ontario Provincial Police; Vincent Westwik, General Counsel, Ottawa-Carleton Regional Police Service.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), a statutory review of the Corrections and Conditional Release Act

Pierre Sangollo and David Griffin made opening statements and with the other witnesses answered questions.

At 5:22 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:25 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Sub-Committee proceeded to consider its future business.

It was agreed, - That the proposed budget for the attendance by the Sub-Committee to the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice Conference in Saskatoon from September 26 to September 29, 1999 be approved.

It was agreed, - That the Chair of the Sub-Committee ask the Chair of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights to seek authorization from the House for the Sub-Committee to attend the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice Conference in Saskatoon from September 26 to September 29, 1999.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
