Meeting No. 19

Tuesday, May 11, 1999

The Sub-Committee on Human Rights and International Development of the Standing Committee of Foreign Affairs and International Trade met in a televised session at 3:24 p.m., this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Colleen Beaumier, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Jean Augustine, Colleen Beaumier, Maud Debien, Keith Martin.

Other Members present: Gordon Earle, Dick Proctor, Julian Reed, Bernard Patry, Bill Graham, John Solomon, Daniel Turp.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: James Lee, Research Officer

Witnesses: As an individual: David Pratt, Member of Parliament, Special envoy to Sierra Leone of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. From the High Commission for the Republic of Sierra Leone: His Excellency John Ernest Leigh, High Commissioner.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Sub-Committee held an information sesssion on the situation of Human security in Africa.

His Excellency John Leigh and David Pratt, M.P., made opening statements and answered questions.

At 4:54 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
