Meeting No. 3

Wednesday, May 9, 2001

The Sub-Committee on Human Rights and International Development of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chair, Beth Phinney, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Colleen Beaumier, Eugène Bellemare, Deepak Obhrai, Beth Phinney, Svend Robinson.

Acting Member present: Yves Rocheleau for Antoine Dubé.

Other Member present: Joe Comuzzi.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: James Lee, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Rights and Democracy: Eleanor Douglas, Consultant; Mary Durran, Communications Officer. From the Canadian Foundation for the Americas: Gerd Schonwalder, Deputy Director; Judy Meltzer, Policy Analyst.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Sub-Committee commenced its study of human rights, development and other matters in Colombia.

Eleanor Douglas and Gerd Schonwalder made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
