Thursday, September 20, 2001

The Sub-Committee on Human Rights and International Development of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:39 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Beth Phinney, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Irwin Cotler, Antoine Dubé, Deepak Obhrai, Beth Phinney, Svend Robinson.

Other Members present: Keith Martin, Maurice Vellacott.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: James Lee, Gerry Schmitz. From the Committee and Parliamentary Associations Directorate: Stephen Knowles, Clerk of the Standing Committee of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

Witnesses : The Ambassador of Canada to Colombia: Guillermo E. Rishchynski. From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Ron Davidson, Director, South America Division.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Sub-Committee resumed its study of human rights, development and other matters in Colombia.

Ambassador Guillermo E. Rishchynski made an opening statement and, with Ron Davidson, answered questions.

At 5:11 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
