Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Friday, October 28, 2022, the committee commenced its study on the conditions faced by asylum-seekers.

Motion

Jenny Kwan moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee invite the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship and departmental officials to update the committee on the 2022 Annual Report to Parliament on Immigration, including Canada's Immigration Level Plan 2023-2025.

At 3:32 p.m., Salma Zahid took the Chair.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 11; NAYS: 0.

Motion

Larry Maguire moved, — That Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada table in both English and French with the committee, until further notice, the previous month's number of people entering Canada, through non-official points of entry who claim asylum, not later than the 5th of the month succeeding the data.

Debate arose thereon.

Amendment

Marie-France Lalonde moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing the word “5th” with the word “20th”.

Debate arose thereon.

At 3:52 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), the sitting was suspended.

At 4:44 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada table in both English and French with the committee, until further notice, the previous month's number of people entering Canada, through non-official points of entry who claim asylum, not later than the 20th of the month succeeding the data.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.
