Minutes of Proceedings
It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(a)(vi), the committee undertake a study of Inuktut on federal election ballots in the electoral district of Nunavut and order the analysts to make the necessary updates to the committee’s 72nd Report that was presented to the House during the 44th Parliament, for the committee’s consideration.
It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(a)(vii), the committee undertake a study of forms and guidelines from the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner, that the evidence and documentation received by the committee during the 44th Parliament on the subject be taken into consideration by the committee in the current session, and that the clerk distribute the draft report that was prepared by the analysts on the subject during the 44th Parliament for the committee’s consideration.
By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the motion moved by Christine Normandin on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, and adopted by the committee on Thursday, June 12, 2025, concerning matters related to Canada's 45th general election, be rescinded and replaced by the following motion:
That the committee invite Stéphane Perrault, Chief Electoral Officer, to present his report on the 45th general election and answer questions from committee members during a two-hour meeting.
At 11:16 a.m., the meeting was suspended.
At 11:20 a.m., the meeting resumed.
It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(a)(iii), the committee direct the clerk of the committee to invite officials from both the House of Commons and the Parliamentary Protective Service to provide a briefing on security risks, updates and other issues to members, and that this briefing, or parts of it, be done in camera should officials recommend.
At 11:25 a.m., the meeting was suspended.
At 11:27 a.m., the meeting resumed.
It was agreed, — That, further to its study on the implementation and interpretation of the electoral process and the application of the Canada Elections Act, the committee:
(a) include, as a part of this study, an examination of the actions of the “Longest Ballot committee” in recent elections, with a view toward furnishing the government with recommendations;
(b) schedule no fewer than four meetings for this purpose;
(c) invite the following witnesses to appear:
a. The Chief Electoral Officer;
b. The Commissioner of Canada Elections; and
d) invite members of the committee to submit witness lists to the clerk by no later than Monday, September 29, 2025, at noon.It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(a)(i), the committee direct the clerk of the committee to invite the Speaker and House officials for an update on the House and its related matters.
It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(a)(i), the committee direct the clerk of the committee to invite the officials responsible for the Long-Term Vision and Planning and Centre Block Rehabilitation to brief members on current plans and progress and direct the clerk to arrange a site visit of Centre Block for committee members.
At 11:48 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
