MINUTES OF PROCEEDING
Tuesday, November 4, 1997
The Standing Committee on Finance met in televised session at 9:03 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 253-D, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Paddy Torsney, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Mark Assad, Maurizio Bevilacqua, Roger Gallaway, Jim Jones, Gary Pillitteri, Karen Redman, Gerry Ritz, Paul Szabo, Paddy Torsney and Tony Valeri.
Acting Members present: Odina Desrochers for Yvan Loubier; Caroline St-Hilaire for Gilles A. Perron..
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Marion Wrobel, Research Officer.
Witnesses: Round Table 1 -- From the Canadian Real Estate Association: Pierre J. Beauchamp, Chief Executive Officer; Gordon Taylor, Director; Gregory Klump, Senior Economist. From the Heritage Canada Foundation: Brian Anthony, Executive Director; Doug Franklin, Director, Government Relations. Round Table 2 -- From the "Fédération des femmes du Québec": Françoise David, President; Ruth Rose, Economist. From the National Council of Women of Canada: Helen Saravanamuttoo, Vice-President; Ruth Brown, Past President. From the National Association of Women and the Law: Lisa Phillips, National Steering Committee Member. From the Canadian Congress for Learning Opportunities for Women: Pat Webb, President. In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 83.1, The Committee resumed its Pre-Budget Consultation Study. (See Minutes of Proceedings, Wednesday, October 15, 1997, Meeting No. 3).
Pierre Beauchamp and Brian Anthony made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 9:54 o’clock a.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 10:32 o’clock a.m., the sitting resumed.
At 10:32 o’clock a.m., Maurizio Bevilacqua took the Chair.
The participants in Round Table Two made statements and answered questions.
At 12:05 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
