MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Thursday, April 2, 1998

The Standing Committee on Finance met at 9:14 o’clock a. m. this day in Room 371 West Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Maurizio Bevilacqua, Scott Brison, David Iftody, Yvan Loubier, Gary Pillitteri, Karen Redman, Gerry Ritz, Paul Szabo, Paddy Torsney and Tony Valeri.

Acting Members present: Carmen Provenzano for Marc Assad; Murray Calder for Roger Gallaway; Christiane Gagnon for Gilles Perron and, at 10:15 a.m. Michel Bellehumeur for Yvan Loubier.

In accordance with the Order of Reference of the House of Commons of Tuesday, March 31, 1998, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-36, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 24, 1998.

Tony Valeri made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

On motion of Paddy Torsney, it was agreed, - That the motion adopted at the meeting of Wednesday, April 1, 1998 concerning the date for reporting Bill C-36, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 24, 1998 be revoked.

On motion of Paddy Torsney, it was agreed, - That Bill C-36, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 24, 1998 be reported back to the House of Commons by Friday, May 8, 1998.

At 11:06 o’clock a. m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
