The Standing Committee on Finance met at 9:11 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Maurizio Bevilacqua, Gary Pillitteri, Karen Redman, Monte Solberg, Paddy Torsney and Tony Valeri.
Acting Members present: Bev Desjarlais for Nelson Riis, Pierre de Savoye for Yvan Loubier, Werner Schmidt for Dick Harris, Bill Casey for Scott Brison.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Richard Domingue and Marion G. Wrobel, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Department of finance: Frank Swedlove, Director, Financial Sector Division, Financial Sector Policy Branch; Annette Gibbons, Senior Analyst, Financial Sector Division, Financial Sector Policy Branch. From the Insurance Bureau of Canada: George Anderson, President and C.E.O; Mark Yakabuski, Director, Government Relations; Randy Bundus, Associate General Counsel. From Caldwell Securities Ltd.: Thomas Caldwell, President and CEO. From the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada: Rod Jones, Chairman; Mike Toole, President-Elect; Mabel Sanson, Executive Director.
In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2) the committee commenced its study of the Tied Selling provisions in the Bank Act.
Frank Swedlove made a statement and with, Annette Gibbons, answered questions.
At 10:06 o’clock a.m. the sitting was suspended.
