MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

 

Meeting No. 1

Tuesday, December 14, 1999

The Sub-Committee on International Financial Reporting Guidelines and Standards for the Public Sector of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in camera at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Steve Mahoney, Beth Phinney, John Richardson, John Williams.

Other Member present: Derrek Konrad for Philip Mayfield.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean Dupuis; Brian O'Neal, Research Officers.

The Sub-Committee proceeded to consider its future business.

The Chair explained the Sub-Committee's objective and the role for parliamentarians to play in the fight against bribery and corruption in the Public Sector.

It was agreed, unanimously, - That the Chair send a letter to the Honourable Lloyd Axworthy, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade with a view to supporting international initiatives by governments to improve accountability and reduce corruption around the world.

At 3:55 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
