John Nater

Elected to Parliament in 2015 and re-elected in 2019, 2021, and 2025, John Nater is the dedicated representative for the people of Perth—Wellington.

Known for his commitment to public service and parliamentary procedure, Mr. Nater has been a well-respected Parliamentarian by Members of all parties for the past ten years.

Before receiving unanimous support for his appointment as Assistant Deputy Speaker and Assistant Deputy Chair of Committees of the Whole, Mr. Nater served as Vice Chair of the Standing Committees on Procedure and House Affairs, Canadian Heritage, and Official Languages. Mr. Nater has also been a member of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts and the Joint Committee on the Library of Parliament. In these roles Mr. Nater has worked on some of the most challenging and contentious national issues before the House of Commons.

A dedicated defender of parliamentary democracy, Mr. Nater has worked tirelessly to protect parliamentary privilege and advocate for transparency and accountability throughout the federal government. He is well regarded on both sides of the House of Commons for his keen interest in preserving the procedural rules of parliament. Mr. Nater has a passion for Canadian political history and our shared national heritage.

Mr. Nater holds a Bachelor of Public Affairs and Policy Management from Carleton University, and a Master of Public Administration from Queen’s University. Prior to his election to the House of Commons, Mr. Nater served as a West Perth Municipal Councillor and taught at King’s University College.

He resides in Mitchell, Ontario with his wife Justine and their three children.
