(Meeting No. 32)


THURSDAY, APRIL 30, 1998

 

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 9:10 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Clifford Lincoln, Mauril Bélanger, Sarmite Bulte, John Godfrey, Pat O'Brien, Wendy Lill and Mark Muise.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Susan Alter, Lynn Myers and Sonya Dakers, Research Officers.

Appearing: The Hon. Andy Mitchell, Secretary of State for Parks.


Witnesses: From The Professional Institute of the Public Services of Canada: Steve Hindle, President and Sally Diehl, Research Officer & Compensation Analyst. From Public Service Alliance of Canada: Doug Chalk, National President of the National Component. From the Department of Canadian Heritage (Parks): Tom Lee, Assistant Deputy Minister; Wendy Bergeron, Director, Human Resources Management Strategies; Mike Fay, Director, Strategic Business Services, Strategy and Plans Directorate; Denis McCarthy, Chair, Parks Canada, Transition Team. From the Department of Justice: Henry Schultz, Legal Counsel, Constitutional and Administrative Law Section.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of the House dated Thursday, March 19, 1998. The Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-29, An Act to establish the Canadian Parks Agency and to amend other Acts as a consequence.

Steve Hindle and Doug Chalk made opening statements and with, Denis McCarthy, answered questions.

At 11:21 o'clock a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:26 o'clock a.m., the sitting resumed.

The Hon. Andy Mitchell, made an opening statement and with, Tom Lee answered questions.

At 12:29 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
