Wednesday, February 17, 1999

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 3:38 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mauril Bélanger, Paul Bonwick, Maurice Dumas, John Godfrey, Clifford Lincoln, Inky Mark, Dennis Mills.

Acting Member(s) present: Pierre de Savoye for Suzanne Tremblay.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Gaston Blais; Luc Gagné, Researchers.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society: Mary Granskou, Executive Director; Sabine Jessen, Executive Director. From the "Alliance des pêcheurs professionnels du Québec ": Jean-Claude Grégoire, Member, Administrative Council. From the Canadian Nature Federation: Kevin McNamee, Director, Wildlands Campaign; Shelly Bryant, Consultant. From Canadian Heritage Parks Canada: Bruce Amos.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of the House dated Tuesday, December 1, 1998, a study of Bill C-48, An Act respecting marine conservation areas.

Mary Transkov, Sabine Jessen, Kevin McNamee and Jean-Claude Grégoire made opening statements and with Bruce Amos, answered questions.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
