(TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 1998)

 

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 11:07 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 269, West Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Clifford Lincoln, Mauril Bélanger, Sarmite Bulte, John Godfrey, Joe Jordan, Dennis Mills, Pat O'Brien, Jacques Saada, Jim Abbott, Caroline St-Hilaire and Wendy Lill.

 

Acting Members present: Scott Brisen for Mark Muise and Charlie Penson for Jim Pankiw.

 

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: René Lemieux and Susan Alter, Research Officers.

 

Witnesses: From General Publishing Co. Ltd.: Jack E. Stoddart, Chairman and Publisher. From "Association du disque et de l'industrie du spectacle et vidéo québécois (ADISQ)": Robert Pilon. From Attic Records Ltd.: Alexander Mair, President. As individual: Anne McCaskill, Consultant. From Polaire Institute of Canada: Tony Clarke, Director and Author of MAI (The Multilateral Agreement on Investment and the Threat to Canadian Sovereigny)

 

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee considered the Multilateral Agreement on Investment (MAI).

 

Jack Stoddart, Alexander Mair and Robert Pilon made opening statements and with the other witnesses answered questions.

 

At 1:15 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
