Meeting No. 82

Thursday, February 25, 1999

The Sub-Committee of the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 4:07 p.m. this day, in the Stanley Park Room of the Westin Bayshore, Vancouver, British Columbia, the Chair, Sarmite Bulte, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mauril Bélanger, Sarmite Bulte, Eric Lowther, Ted McWhinney, Mark Muise and Benoît Sauvageau.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Wanda Noël, Consultant.

Round Table Participants: From the British Columbia Arts Council-Provincial: Merill Gordon; From the Burnaby Parks Recreation and Cultural Services & Greater Vancouver Regional Cultural Plan Steering Committee: Denis Nokony, Assistant Director; From the City of Vancouver: Burke Taylor, Director; From the CTV Inc.: Jon Festinger, Executive Vice President; From the Japanese Canadian National Museum & Archives Society: Frank Kamiya; As an Individual: Norman Armour, Artistic Producer; From the Vancouver Fringe Festival: Karen Planden, Executive Director; From the British Columbia Film: Bob Egan, President and Chief Executive Officer.

Audience Participant: From the Association of Book Publishers of British Columbia: Margaret Reynolds.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Sub-Committee resumed consideration of a Canadian Cultural Policy.

The Chair made opening remarks.

The Members and participants proceeded to a round table discussion and invited comments from the audience.

At 6:13 p.m., the Sub-Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
