MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS TUESDAY, DECEMBER 2, 1997 The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met this day, at 9:08 a.m., in Room 308, West Block, Stan Dromisky, presiding. Members of the Committee present: Sarmite Bulte, Deepak Obhrai, Stan Dromisky, Gordon Earle, Raymonde Folco, Jocelyne Girard-Bujold, Sophia Leung, Steve Mahoney, John N. McKay, Grant McNally, Réal Ménard, Maria Minna and John Reynolds. In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Research Officer. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), Study of the Operation and Management of the Immigration and Refugee Board and its "Performance Report". Witnesses: From the Immigration and Refugee Board: Nurjehan Mawani, Chairperson; Paul Thibault, Executive Director; Philip Palmer, General Counsel; Evelyn Levine, Director Gereral, Policy, Planning and Research. Nurjehan Mawani made an opening statement and, with Philip Palmer and Paul Thibault, answered questions. By unanimous consent, Réal Ménard gave notice of a motion to be discussed at the next meeting of the Committee. At 10:57 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair. |
