WEDNESDAY, December 10, 1997

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in camera this day at 3:43 p.m., in Room 705, La Promenade Building, Stan Dromisky, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarmite Bulte, Deepak Obhrai, Stan Dromisky, Steve Mahoney, John N. McKay, Réal Ménard, Maria Minna, John Reynolds and Jacques Saada.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament
: Margaret Young, Research Officer.

The Committee considered its future business.

At 3:53 p.m., the Committee reverted to a public meeting.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of the process of issuing working authorizations.

Witnesses: From the Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Greg Fyffe, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy and Program Development; Joan Atkinson, Director General, Selection Branch; Anne Arnott, Director, Operational Coordination, International Region and Bill Farrell, Deputy Director, Economic Policy and Programs, Selection Branch and Dougall Aucoin, Director, Economic Policy.

Greg Fyffe and Joan Atkinson made opening statements and, with Dougall Aucoin, answered questions.

At 4:39 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
